99¢ Liquor Store Tacos: TASTETASTIC?!
Every day I drive down the bum ridden streets of City Heights and I pass the usually scary liquor store “El General”. The only difference is on Sundays they have a tiny stand out front boasting 1 dollar tacos. Every week I pass this place, thinking filthy thoughts of getting out of my car and indulging in what must be great tacos. Considering the number of “supermercados” and “fruitas del fresco” stands in my hood I figured how could I go wrong? So I parked the car, braved the gun shots, hurdled a passed out crack addict, and grabbed a few T’s for a Gruntastic review.

Well, there were two tacos. In the 30 seconds it took to get the camera I ate the steak one. But what you should be looking at is a picture of a carne asada and pollo asado taco freshly plundered form the liquor store. Cooked on a grill in the parking lot by a guy with neck tattoos the meat goes from his spatula right into a fresh corn tortilla. In there fresh pinto beans, cilantro, onions, salsa, and a squeeze bottle full of guacomole is added. The squeeze bottle full of guacamole was a bit suspect, since we have a weekly tradition in my shack of eating a bowl a week and never could it be pushed out of a 2mm tip. I believe it is what we call “guacamole Americana” which basically means sour cream and green food coloring.

A women with huge boobs and also a breast tattoo serves you them with a chunk of lime and a radish. I dont quite understand the purpose of the radish, so I used it to assail a a drunk onlooker who was eyeing my T’z a little too lavaciously! I got these bad boys home in about 2 minutes and gobbled downward. These are 3-4 bite tacos with that good smokey flavor from the grill and the all the zest you expect from San Diego style mexican food! At 99 cents a pop these bad boys are a new So-Cal flave of mine. Now I cant wait to eat the tamales the woman outside of the other liquor store across the street is selling from a cooler!
